Learning Objectives, Form, Scope, Content and Target Audience

This three-day course offers in-depth training in safe and reproducible anaesthesia of laboratory rodents by laboratory animal veterinarians. 

The participants will learn: 

- the important questions when developing an anaesthetic protocol for specific research questions keeping with the 3R principles

- the different possibilities for monitoring animals under anaesthesia

- the importance of analgesia and analgesic protocol

- strategies to recognize anaesthetic emergencies and solutions.

After lectures on the pharmacology, application, and monitoring of anesthesia and analgesia, with new research data added, participants train the most important techniques in small groups supervised closely by specialists available to assist and answer further questions.

This course addresses researchers with basic knowledge of anaesthesia and analgesia from the M1 course or similar. 

The course consists in three parts: homework to be completed on an EU elearning platform (one day) - online course with Prof Paul Flecknell (one day) - practical training with rodents (one day)

Criteria for the Participation

The participants must be involved in animal experiments using anesthesia (as experimenter, study director).

Accreditation

This course is recognized as continuing education in Switzerland by the Federation of Swiss Cantonal Veterinary Officers (VSKT) for 3 days of continuing education.

Course Fees

Universities in Switzerland: CHF: 500.-
Industry, external person and institutions from abroad: CHF 760.-

Please note that we will charge you the full fees in case of a late cancellation of the course (within 3 weeks before start of the course) or in case of absence. It is the responsibility of the participant to inform the organizer of the course about the cancellation before the deadline of 3 weeks before the course to avoid the billing of the course. To charge for cancellations is common practice by other providers, too. The new proceedings for education courses became necessary due to an increasing extent of short term cancellations in training modules.
